What density and thickness can be produced with physically crosslinked polyethylene foams? What is the maximum available material width?

The foam manufactured by Trocellen is the physically cross-linked polyethylene foam. This PE foam can be produced with modern technology, has excellent mechanical properties and advanced dimensional stability.

In the case of physically cross-linked polyethylene, thickness, width, and density are highly correlated.

  • Density

The primary determining factor is what the function of the product will be. PE foams can be produced in different widths and thicknesses, so the density of the material also depends on these parameters. The density of the cross-linked foam is between 30 kg/m3 to 330 kg/m3, while the non-cross-linked ones can only be much less.

  • Thickness

Each foaming manufacturing technology has its limits in terms of the minimum and maximum value that it can produce a given product in one layer. For Trocellen, this is 0.3 mm and 8 mm. Thicker physically cross-linked PE foam can be made by laminating the monolayer foams together.

  • Width

In the production, there are some limitations to the size of the PE foam. The width of the physically cross-linked foam can also be different sizes, but the maximum is 2000 mm at Trocellen.
