February 11 – International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On February 11, the role of women and girls in science comes into focus worldwide. This day serves as a reminder that scientific and engineering solutions are truly effective and sustainable only when diverse perspectives and experiences come together.

Environmental and social challenges are becoming increasingly complex, and the responses to them cannot emerge from one-dimensional thinking. Diverse teams – with the active participation of women – are capable of creating solutions that work in the long term.

Sustainability and materials innovation

Today, sustainability is reflected in concrete engineering and development decisions. Materials innovation plays a key role in reducing environmental impact: new solutions, optimized material structures, and responsible use of raw materials all contribute to developing more efficient and durable solutions using fewer resources.

The value of science becomes tangible where research results are translated into industrial applications – in manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and technological development.

Science in practice

The industrial use of materials comes with responsibility. Energy-efficient solutions, material structures that enhance durability, and applications that improve safety all influence our everyday lives. More efficient production, optimized material use, and waste reduction create environmental and economic value at the same time.

The role of women in engineering

Behind scientific and engineering innovation are people. Professionals who ask questions, rethink existing approaches, and make responsible decisions. Women’s diverse experiences and perspectives enrich collective thinking and lead to better technical solutions – which is one of the foundations of sustainable development.

Stories of our female colleagues

At Trocellen, we are proud that many women work across various scientific, engineering, and technical fields. In the continuation of this article, we introduce six of our female colleagues through short interviews. They share why they chose their profession, what their experiences have been as women in technical fields, and what advice they would give to young women interested in a career in science.
