Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019il faut savoir sur cette mati\u00e8re\u00a0? Sa formule chimique est (C2H4)n, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire qu\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019une substance \u00e0 base de carbone et hydrog\u00e8ne. La mousse poly\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne est une mati\u00e8re solide \u00e0 structure cellulaire ferm\u00e9e et son moussage est effectu\u00e9 au gaz. Chaque bulle de gaz est s\u00e9par\u00e9e par une couche de mati\u00e8re, formant ainsi des cellules. La mousse de poly\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne est constitu\u00e9e de l\u2019ensemble de ces cellules.<\/p>\n<p>La mousse de PE est flexible, et elle absorbe les vibrations gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa structure. Cette mati\u00e8re est \u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s l\u00e9g\u00e8re et solide, prot\u00e9geant les surfaces emball\u00e9es. Elle existe en versions souffl\u00e9e et lamin\u00e9e. La r\u00e9ticulation de la plaque poly\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne signifie que pendant ce processus, les mol\u00e9cules se sont li\u00e9es par des liaisons chimiques, ainsi, la cha\u00eene de carbone droite est transform\u00e9e \u00e0 une structure ramifi\u00e9e plus durable. La finesse de la structure cellulaire donne une plus grande stabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 la mati\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Elle est disponible en versions ignifuge et conductrice : l\u2019utilisation de la mousse poly\u00e9thyl\u00e8ne r\u00e9ticul\u00e9e est beaucoup plus r\u00e9pandue que celle de la mousse de PE extrud\u00e9e. Sa popularit\u00e9 s\u2019explique \u00e9galement par le fait qu\u2019elle est plus r\u00e9sistante aux intemp\u00e9ries, elle ne r\u00e9agit pas avec les autres substances chimiques et elle n\u2019est pas perm\u00e9able \u00e0 la vapeur. Ainsi, elle peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e pour fabriquer des mat\u00e9riaux isolants, d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019elle n\u2019est consomm\u00e9e ni par les insectes ni par les rongeurs.
